Joy is the optimistic and energetic embodiment of happiness inside Riley Andersen’s mind. As Riley’s first emotion and the self-appointed leader of Headquarters, Joy is determined to keep Riley positive and protect her happiest memories. Her journey teaches her that sadness and other difficult emotions are just as important to Riley’s emotional growth as happiness. In Inside Out 2, Joy continues helping Riley navigate the challenges of adolescence alongside a new group of emotions.
