Deadpool, whose real name is Wade Wilson, is a former special forces operative turned mercenary with an extraordinary regenerative healing factor. After undergoing the Weapon X program in an attempt to cure his terminal cancer, he gained near-immortality at the cost of severe physical scarring. Known as the "Merc with a Mouth," Deadpool combines deadly combat skills with constant jokes, pop culture references, and an uncanny awareness that he exists in a comic book. Although unpredictable and morally flexible, he frequently fights alongside Marvel's heroes against greater threats.
