Bane is a fearsome criminal mastermind who was born and raised inside the brutal Peña Duro prison on the island of Santa Prisca. After enduring a lifetime of hardship, he developed extraordinary intelligence and physical prowess, later enhancing his strength with the experimental drug Venom. Bane became one of Batman's most dangerous enemies by defeating the Dark Knight both mentally and physically, most famously breaking his back during the "Knightfall" storyline. Despite his monstrous reputation, Bane is a calculating strategist whose intellect is every bit as dangerous as his incredible strength.
