Galactus, originally known as Galan, is the last survivor of the universe that existed before the current one. After merging with the Sentience of the Cosmos during the birth of a new universe, he was reborn as Galactus, the legendary Devourer of Worlds. Sustained by the Power Cosmic, he consumes the energy of entire planets to survive and often employs Heralds, such as the Silver Surfer, to locate suitable worlds. Although viewed as one of Marvel's greatest threats, Galactus is often portrayed as a fundamental force of nature rather than a purely evil being.
